Playing with Paper... again...

I've been on a paper-cutting kick again. I love, love, love making things out of paper!

Paperweights and wreaths are what I've had on my work table this week.

I've opened my new website, Simple Joys Paperie, and have 30 items available.

With autumn being my favorite season of all, most of the designs feature

owls...

white pumpkins...

orange pumpkins...

harvest moons...

crescent moons...

corn shocks...

blackbirds...

and a black cat...

I also have a few French inspired items that were made with fleur de lis and bird paper punches...

I still have a lot to do for my website design. I planned on having it ready for the grand opening, but that elusive thing called time just couldn't be found yet again!

Pop over for a visit when you have time
and I'd be very appreciative if you could tell your friends and family about
the more the merrier! :)

Have a lovely evening!

Blue Ridge Parkway

(click the photos for larger views)

The last day of July and the first few days of August, Roger and I took a vacation. Our 26th anniversary had just passed and we both were looking forward to time away from work and time spent together.

Everyone suggested lots of touristy sites to see, but we just wanted to get away... no touristy sites, no souvenir shops, nothing... just time away... driving through back roads, stopping when we saw something of interest, avoiding the interstate when at all possible, and no phone calls ~ except from the kids and my sister a couple of times. :)

One of those days we drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway. It had been terribly hot in Dalton, GA where we had visited friends a couple days earlier, but once we got in the mountains, it cooled off.

There was very little traffic, possibly since it was during the week and not the weekend. We pulled off the road several times to get out and enjoy all the gorgeous views.

It was so nice to just breathe and relax and not hear the phone or the door bell ringing ....
does that sound anti-social? lol!

All of the scenic overlooks had interesting names...

The tunnels were named as well.
I can't tell you how many tunnels we went through. There was always a sign with the tunnel name as you enter the tunnel...

and there was a sign as you came out the other end. It was always named Chuck Lights. Chuck Lights? What kind of name was that??? Ok, so I finally paid better attention (I was the one driving) and realized it was CHECK lights! Sheesh! I should have filled my new eyeglass prescription before we left on our trip!

There were curves everywhere, hairpin curves. Thank goodness I was driving!
I don't like hairpin curves on top of a mountain. I should be used to them though ~ we have them where I live, too.

Despite the hairpin curves, and the momentary lapse of good vision when reading tunnel signs,
it was a relaxing trip. I loved it and was ready to go again a couple of days after we returned home. :)

About a week after our vacation, the 127 Corridor Sale was in progress. I'll share some of those photos in a few days. :)

Going, Going ...

Gone!!! Or at least they will be gone very soon...

My Junk Sale will continue a few more days

There's a deal going on right now:

For each purchase of a NEW listing,
you may choose an item from the OLD listings at 50% off!

I was going to close the sale by the 15th, but after being sick a few days, I didn't have time to list all of my vintage Christmas items. So the Junk Sale has been extended a little longer to give me time to list Christmas pieces later this month.

Come on over for a visit when you have time...

Thanks!

Autumnal Artwork

Last night I finished a piece I was working on for Simply Primitives.
I was using pastel chalks and charcoal sticks and I just couldn't get anything to look right,
or at least it wasn't looking the way I had imagined.

However, I happened to think of a canvas that I had textured and crackled months ago and set aside unfinished. So I applied the artwork to the canvas, added some paper elements (of course!), and then aged everything even further with antiquing stain. The colors remind me of autumn, but with a sepia overlay, if that makes sense.

I am very pleased with the results and will reveal the entire piece on the evening of the 14th when the ladies at Simply Primitives update the online market.

OWLS ~ wisdom and knowledge

I love owls ~ I think they are such interesting and beautiful creatures.

(image from wikipedia)

They are mysterious and haunting at times...

... but when I think of owls,
I always think of wise old owls:
